The One Where We Spent $300

I must say, this was an EPIC first date. He picked the restaurant and told me that he would meet me there at 7:30pm. We were going to a seafood restaurant that I had heard about since moving to the state. Apparently, they are supposed to have the best oysters in town.

I happened to walk into the restaurant right behind him. Perfect timing. When he turned around and saw me for the first time I just remember this smile spread across his face and his blue eyes lit up. He was so handsome.

We sat down at the table and instantly ordered a bottle of wine, some oysters and octopus. Oh my gosh, the food was delicious. I was really enjoying his company. There’s nothing I love more than some witty banter on a first date. We may have gotten a little wine drunk as we finished up our second bottle of wine.

When the bill came around, we had spent about $300 on dinner. HOLY SHIT. I had never spent this much on a first date in my entire life. Naturally, I reached for my wallet and offered to pay for half, because that’s what a working woman does. He said that he would pick up the tab. It was very kind of him. I love when a man is a gentleman and is willing and wanting to take a woman to dinner.

After dinner we walked to a dessert food truck and got some ice cream. I can’t even tell you if I liked the ice cream or not because I was pretty drunk at the moment. All I remember is walking up to the food truck to order, him grabbing my hand, pulling me into him and planting a kiss on my lips. It was SO HOT. I don’t know why I loved it so much. Maybe it was because we were in front of a bunch of strangers and he had no shame in kissing me in front of them.

Our evening ended and we headed our separate ways. We agreed to get together for a second date the following week in which I treated him to dinner. We went to an equally as expensive place as our first date and continued the cycle of amazing food and bottle of wine. Yum. He was fun. And his smile was intoxicating.

The thing about this guy… he just faded into the wind. He was never very chatty. I would hear from him every now and then. But it almost felt like a booty call, minus the sex. It was so strange. We had plans to go on an adventure one Saturday morning. When I woke up on Saturday morning exited to see him, I had a text from him canceling plans. I haven’t seen him since. I’ve been learning how to just let them go. Why fight for a man who doesn’t want to fight for you? Someday I’ll find a man who is head over heels for me. Until that day…
